Tim Kelley, an Alabama native has served in ministry to the Birmingham area for the last twenty years. He was Minister of Students and Single Adults at Southside from 1985 to 1994, and Pastor of Green Springs Baptist Church from 1994 to 2000, and Associate Pastor for Ministries and Administration at Southside Baptist Church. On September 12, 2021, Dr. Kelley was installed as Pastor.

 

An alumnus of Samford University, earning the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree (1980), Dr. Kelley continued his education at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with the Master of Divinity degree (1992), and the Doctor of Ministry degree (1998) from Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham. He was licensed to the ministry in 1985 and ordained in 1990 by Southside Baptist Church.


Rev. Ethan Asters

Minister for Congregational Ministries


Ethan Asters grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi and has served in various ministry contexts throughout the Southeast including Birmingham, New Orleans, and Nashville. Ethan joins the Southside staff as Minister for Congregational Ministries, previously serving as Minister for Community Engagement and Spiritual Formation from 2021-2023. 

 

An ordained Baptist minister, Ethan returned to school to pursue a Master of Social Work after a decade in vocational ministry. Ethan is committed to exploring the intersections of spirituality and social work, affirming the gospel of Jesus as a transformative movement that is good news to all. Ethan and his wife Hannah live in Hoover, Alabama with their daughter Evie, and Rhodesian Ridgeback, Indy. 

 

Ethan is a graduate of Samford University, United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, and has continued his education at the University of Alabama’s School of Social Work. Ethan also serves as Program Coordinator for the James Houston Center for Faith & Successful Aging, a nonprofit that seeks to enhance the spiritual, emotional, economic, health & well-being of elders & their caregivers through faith-based organizations.
